Some of the pieces used in western style decor are rugged and rough, though certainly not all pieces need to be.

Some people use old pieces such as wagon wheels and old saws to decorate their walls. If this is not for you, you can still decorate in western decor. There are many different ways to decorate using this style without feeling like you have old barnyard wood hanging on your walls!

Part of the charm of western decor is the colors that are used. These colors come from nature, such as deep greens, golds, reds and russets. Using these colors adds an abundance of charm and a feeling of warmth to your home.

You can use these colors on your walls, rugs, pillows, and throws as well as in pictures, figurines, etc. If you really want to add some western flair, add some horseshoes here and there - this will really add to the homestead appeal!

Try using these colors in a throw or rug, for example. A striped pattern rug consisting of these colors is very striking when used in western decor.

Wood accents painted with these colors are also beautiful, as well as pictures containing rich colors. Native American pictures, as well as mountain terrain and desert landscapes, along with cowboys and horses add a great amount of interest to western decor styled homes.
